Cradle Score

How we score baby products

Every Cradle Score is built the same way, shown in parts, and backed by links you can check.

The three parts

Materials & safety (40%). What a product is made of and what it's been tested for: third-party certifications such as GREENGUARD Gold, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, MADE SAFE and EWG Verified; added flame retardants; independent PFAS screening where it exists; crash-test results for car seats; and recall history from the CPSC and NHTSA.

Parent consensus (40%). The praise and complaints that keep coming up across hands-on expert tests, Reddit parent communities, TikTok, retailer reviews and forums. We summarize patterns in our own words and link the originals. We never invent quotes or reviewers.

Value & longevity (20%). Price against similar products, how many months you'll use it, resale value, and whether a cheaper option does the same job.

What the bands mean

Confidence

Every score carries a High, Medium or Low confidence label based on how much independent evidence we found. A product with one hands-on test and a recall search starts at Low and moves up as we add more tests and parent reports. Confidence describes the evidence, not the product.

Rules that override the number

Where the evidence comes from

Hands-on expert tests (such as BabyGearLab, Consumer Reports, Mommyhood101, The Bump and Forbes Vetted), independent lab screening (such as Mamavation's PFAS tests), the CPSC recall database, NHTSA car seat recalls, certifier databases, brand material disclosures, and parent communities.

Updates and corrections

Every page shows when it was last checked. We recheck products at least every six months and right away when a recall is announced. If you spot an error, email [email protected] and we'll recheck it.

Independence

Brands can't pay for placement, scores or reviews. Some links may earn us a commission; scores are set before links are added and never change because of them. See our affiliate disclosure.
